Place-name Research on Colonsay and Oronsay – Volunteers Needed

April 21, 2016, Christopher Mitchell

Are you interested in place-names and natural heritage?

Ainmean-Àite na h-Alba (AÀA) in partnership with SNH and the national research network Soillse are embarking on a new place-name project on Colonsay and Oronsay and we need your help.

The project will become part of the award winning series of bilingual booklets, Gaelic in the Landscape, published by SNH. This will be the sixth booklet of the series and the fourth in partnership with AÀA. As part of the vital work in creating the booklet we are looking for a small team of volunteer fieldworkers to carry out the local research aspect of the project. If you have an interest in the history and place-names of the islands, and have a reasonable level of fluency in Gaelic, we would like to hear from you. Local knowledge would be particularly useful.
