“Toscaig Toskag 1662; G. Toghscaig (close o); ‘t-hauga-skik, how-strip;’ hauga,’ a cairn, barrow, how. There is also Abhainn Thoghscaig, the river of Toscaig, and Loch Thoghscaig, the loch of Toscaig.” Watson 1904, 203
“Toscaig is the name of a township at the head of the loch and the mouth of the river named after it. The Gaelic is right, except that it does not require ‘gh.’ The name, as far as appears, is really connected with the loch not the cape, and suggests ‘vik’ as the latter part of it.” Robertson, The Northern Chronicle September 3, 1902
