Sources

Tomm-Ackenn c. 1591 Pont map 8
tomelun 1636-52 Gordon 22 [for tometun]
Tomaline 1820 Thomson [for Tomatine]

n dom -aXtun: Diack Ms2276
n dom-achtun: Diack Inscriptions, 197
Tom-aitinn: Watson 2002 (1920) 152

SGDS shows strong preaspiration in this area as Diack shows in his pronunciation. It also shows no velarisation in final -nn. That is to say, aXtun represents the local pronunciation of Aitionn. Watson’s form may be a slight etymologisation although it is supported by the modern form and Pont’s form.
