The Dictionary of the Scots Language says diminutive of trink: ‘A narrow open drain or trench, gen. for the passage of water, a gutter, ditch, runnel’, whilst the Caithness Book by Omand says trink is a dialect word for ‘opening between rocks, usually under water’.
The Trinkie is an outdoor swimming pool, or is the site where one is situated.
