Sources

Sron chritheagain (has a’ crossed through between these two words): Robertson
Sròn a’ chritheagain: Gillies, Place-names of Argyll, 197
Stronchreggan House: Sròn Chridh-aigein H.P. – English meaning Point of the heart of the abyss: OS name books Argyll OS1/2/68/250 [This is all struckthrough]
Sròn a’ Chreagain: Applied to a small rock north and within a few yards of Drochaid Sron a Chreagain. It signifies “Point of the Rock.” OS1/2/68/226
OS maps give the river by this as Abhainn Sròn a’ Chreagain.
Ardgour Townships: Stroncriegane, 1629 (1); Strongagarran, 1667 (2); Stroncrigan, 1817 (3); Stroncreggan, 1873 (5);

Additional Information

OS seemed to have picked Sròn a’ Chreagain as the form over the ‘Sròn Chridh-aigein’. It is possible they chose the form they did because the informant was a reverend. The informant for the Chridh-aigein form actually lived at Stronchreggan House. The local form also concurs with Robertson’s form and early forms.
