This name was gathered as part of a local research project on the place-names of Strath, Isle of Skye and was published in a booklet by SNH and AÀA. The Following quote appears in that booklet:
“Òb is commonly used along the coast from Kyleakin to Breakish and means a creek or tidal inlet. … When coming along Ardnish from Ceann an Òba, ‘the end of the creek’, the first noticeable inlet is Òb an Fhaing, ‘the creek of the fank’.”
