In Aberdeenshire Luncarty occurs north of Turriff, probably a dative-locative plural longartaibh. There is also Lumphard Hill, with which may be compared the old spelling Lumphortyn (RPSA) of Luncarty in Perthshire, and Lomphart (Blaeu), now Longford in Midlothian. In Perthshire Luncarty on the Tay above Perth is famed as the scene of a battle in which the Danes were defeated in 990 a.d . Though the authority for this battle is late and traditional, the existence of this name, ‘ at encampments,’ tends to confirm the account of a battle there. : Watson 1926, 494
