Additional Information

This name was gathered as part of a local research project on the place-names of Strath, Isle of Skye and was published in a booklet by SNH and AÀA. The Following quote appears in that booklet:

“Allt is the de facto element in Gaelic meaning a ‘small watercourse’, but on Skye the term lòn can also mean a ‘small burn, especially with marshy banks’. Close to Heaste are two burns next to each other: Lòn na Searraich, ‘the burn of the young horse’, and Lòn na h-Earba, ‘the burn of the young deer’. Nearby is Lòn an Fheòir, ‘the burn of the grass’.”
