Sources

“Legbernard, supposed to be now Leadburn in the parish of Penicuik (Lawrie, p.384). That Legbernard was in this parish is proved by ‘the lands of Hallhouse and Leckbernard within the parochin of Pennycook,’ 1653 (Ret.); as Hallhouse is now Halls, south of Penicuik, Legbernard was probably near it.” Watson 1926, 142

“Watson’s doubt as to the applicability of the early forms to the modern Leadburn seems unjustified by the repeated reference to Halls and Legbernard together in early sources; he admits that Legbernard is in the parish.” Dixon
