Cill Chrìosd: Dwelly
Cill a’ Chrò, formerly Cille Chriosd name changed by MacKinnon.: Robertson MSs
This name was gathered as part of a local research project on the place-names of Strath, Isle of Skye and was published in a booklet by SNH and AÀA. The Following quote appears in that booklet:
“The church in Ashaig is called Cill Aisig, ‘the church of Ashaig’. A local story tells that the bell of this church always rung of its own accord at sunset on Saturday and at sunrise on Monday. Because of this, the bell was removed to the main parish church of Strath at Cill Chriosd near Torrin, but it thereafter discontinued its voluntary ringing.”
