The name “Inverbeg” is a corruption of Inbhir-beag or the small confluence.: 1860 OS Namebooks OS1/9/3/35
Additional Information
It is at the foot of the Douglas Water and may perhaps have originally related to a small river (e.g. An Abhainn Bheag) which is no longer extant. Thomson’s map of 1832 shows ‘Nether Inveruglas’ just above it. There is no direct evidence for the article, but inbhir is generally masculine.
