Sources

G. King ee : Diack MS2276

“[‘kine]. A stream, tributary of the Don. Pronounced officially Kindie, but in the dialect Kinnie. c. 1357, Glenkenety Ai. 1406, Glenkenedv in Mar A4. 15 n, Glenkindy RMS. 1535, Glen- kyndie A4. (In Gael. Glen King-ee—D.) North of Glenkindie a stream running the other way into Deveron has the same name and pronunciation, Kinnie. Probably this is the same name as occurs near Peterhead, Inverquinzie, pronounced Inner-kingie. Macdonald thought it might be the same as Cannie, but there are no data to show this.” Alexander, 309

Compare with Kingie:

King-gi: Diack Ms2276

“Cingidh, Kingie, a tributary of Garry in Inverness-shire, is from O.Ir. cingim, I stride, cingid, cingidh, a champion, Gaulish Cingeto-rix, ‘hero-king,’ ‘king of heroes’… It may be simply the noun cingidh, champion.” Watson 1926, 443
