Dell Road is an unnamed track on OS 1869. It leads towards Dell Hill on OS 1869, but no evidence of this name on modern maps, it seems to be now called Gallowhill, which was once a separate hill. It seems most likely that this hill was named after a nearby dell or wooded hollow. The Place-names of the Parish of Campbeltown says of this name simply: “English”. G dail could possibly be a candidate here, since OS 1869 shows a grassy meadow beside Witch Burn to the south of Dell Hill. There is also a nearby Meadowburn Distillery.
