This name was gathered as part of a local research project on the place-names of Strath, Isle of Skye and was published in a booklet by SNH and AÀA. The Following quote appears in that booklet:
“Where Liveras previously extended is Corry, which is An Coire, ‘the corrie’, or Coire Chatachain, ‘the corrie of the Catachs’. The word Catachan may be a surname or relate to cat, which translates as ‘cat’. Corry was originally between Beinn Dearg Mhòr and Beinn Dearg Bheag. Corry is famous for its links to the Mackinnons of Strath. They were persecuted for hosting the young pretender Bonnie Prince Charlie. Later, however, Corry was praised for hosting Dr. Samuel Johnson and James Boswell on their well-known journey here in 1773.”
