This name was gathered as part of a local research project on the place-names of Strath, Isle of Skye and was published in a booklet by SNH and AÀA. The Following quote appears in that booklet:

“Bothan an Tairbh, ‘the pen of the bull’, is a ruin in Ardnish where a bull was supposedly kept. Until recently, wooden posts that made up a pen beside the ruin were visible. Locals still remember when there were bulls at Ashaig, Ardnish and the grazings at Achadh a’ Chùirn. One of the bulls – either at Ardnish or Ashaig – escaped and fought with the other bull and no-one could get near them for a week. Today crofting practices have changed, and a single bull is hired over the summer and kept at Ashaig.”
