Auchtergaven in Perthshire is said to have been in Gaelic Uachdar ghamh-thir, ‘upper part of the winter land’ (O.S.A., xvii. p. 551); the name should be written Uachdar Ghamhair, for the parish church is in Gleann Gamhair, anglicized Glen Garry.” Watson 1926, p. 432
Robertson also gives Allt Ghamhair for Garry Burn which flows through Bankfoot.
Additional Information
Robertson gives ‘Bankfoot or Auchtergaven’. Auchtergaven is the name of the parish and it appears Bankfoot housed the parish church. The name Bankfoot is only on the record since 1811 [https://www.bankfootinn.co.uk/history] and it appears Auchtergaven was the earlier name for it.
