Additional Information
“Uachdarath (pronounced by some people during the last century uòKgәr әn drah, i.e. Uachdar an t-Srath, “the upper part of the Strath”), uKgәra. This latter form may possibly refer to the vitrified fort on the hill at the end of the Strath; although “rath” meaning a circular fort, seems to be unknown now.: Dieckhoff Dictionary [under Auchteraa]
Dieckhoff’s notes show this older form representing “Uachdar an Rath” with the article.
..”above it [River Oich] is Uachdar Abha, Auchterawe, i.e. the ground above the Awe: Watson 1926, 477 [similar quote in Watson’s intro to MacBain]
Of the two interpretations, Dieckhoff’s is preferable here, since he studied this area in greater detail than Watson. His interpretation is also supported by Pont’s form.
