Sources

Aird Eónaig: Robertson

Àird Eónaig: Watson in Dwelly

Airdeònaig: Gow, 1900 Aberfeldy District

Aird-eònaig: 1919, S. MacDhiarmaid, Sgeulachdan bho Shiorramachd Pheairt, Transactions ixxx, 22

Ardeonaig is an fhichead sgillinn, ‘ the twenty shilling land.’: Watson 1926, 236

The meaning of Adamnan’s height for Airdeonaig is Mr McLean’s. The pronunciation of the saint’s name who lived in Glen Lyon is Eothannan. He is usually taken to be Adamnan but whether or thoroughly good grounds I am not sure. Now the pronunciation of Ardeonaig in Gaelic is quite different – Aird eònan (local Airdeóunaig – no th) and so far as sound may guide us (and there is nothing else) the derivation is wrong. It is possible enough
that Ardeonaig may be a substitute for Ard-eonan,: Robertson MS372, 420
