This name was gathered as part of a local research project on the place-names of Strath, Isle of Skye and was published in a booklet by SNH and AÀA. The Following quote appears in that booklet:
“East of Kyleakin there is Allt nan Gamhainn, ‘the burn of the stirks’, or as others say locally, Allt na Gaimhne, ‘the burn of the stirk’. This place is understood to be where the stirks, or year-old calves, took a drink where the banks of the burn were low enough for the young animals to access.”
