This name was gathered as part of a local research project on the place-names of Strath, Isle of Skye and was published in a booklet by SNH and AÀA. The Following quote appears in that booklet:
“Allt Anabhaig by Kyleakin (or as the maps have it, Allt Anavig) probably relates to an unknown Norse name followed by víkr, ‘bay’. This is possibly the same element in Camustianavig or Camas Tianabhaig near Portree.”

After the publication of the Strath place-name booklet further information was received from a local informant. They were taught in School that Allt Anavig was in fact Allt Anna Bheag, ‘wee Anna’s burn’, and that a girl had drowned here near the mouth of the burn where the quarry is now. The mouth of the burn is also the most likely location of the bay, Anabhaig, from which the burn gets its name, but this is not certain. NG735264
